UI/Polish
The UI for the Land of Blob was very important to get implemented into the game. From allowing the user to transverse the game freely through Main Menu, Level Select and any given level to conveying to the player how much health they have left. The original plan was to add a health bar to the player but after looking at other platformers I decided to opt for a heart system. The player starts the game with 4 hearts and as the player dies to an enemy, lava or a given obstacle he/she will lose 1 heart as shown below:
The most recent addition to the UI, is which level the player is on, shown above. These two pieces of information are to communicate information to the player which will make it easier for he/she to understand the mechanics of how the game works. As the player looks at the hearts and how they react to dying the player is able to ascertain that the hearts are a means to give the player more chances at the level. Another addition to the game is the Main Menu and Levels select.
The Main Menu gives the player a main hub to either start the game or navigate to the level select where the player is able to choose which level they want to play.
The last addition to the UI is giving the player the ability to access the Main Menu and Level Select anywhere in the game. If the player is getting sick of a level and cannot pass it or if the game bugs out. This gives the player the ability to get out of there, start another level or just go back to the Main Menu for a breather. The ESC menu also Pauses the game just in case the player needs to go AFK but they do not want that moving platform to move from where it is and disappear when they return.
